The most important thing to know about the two-handed backhand is that sometimes you will have to let go and hit with one hand. That's because the contact point in a two-handed shot must be within a small strike zone just off the front foot, whereas with one hand you have tremendous latitude: you can hit a ball that's way out in front of you or one that's actually gotten behind you, one that's in the dirt or one that's high over your head, one that's way out to the side or one that right at you. That's a huge strike zone. There will be times in matches when you can't get set up in time to hit the ball with two hands, so, to save the point, you will have to let go and be able to make a decent shot one-handed. For . . .
But in the two-handed backhand you have no off-arm keeping your shoulders from coming around. Both hands are on the racket, and both shoulders are coming round, producing a curved swing.
Does this mean that the two-handed backhand is no good? No, not at all. But it does mean that your left arm must power the shot. The left shoulder isn't coming around so far. The left arm can keep the swing path fairly straight through the hitting zone at least. And so, your supporting arm 鈥?not the dominant arm 鈥?should be the driving force behind the shot.Best Advice For Hitting A One And Two hand backhand?
you need to pick one or the other and work on it ........with the exception of a 2 handed backhander will usually use 1 for a sliceBest Advice For Hitting A One And Two hand backhand?
What I've learned about the one-hander is that you must keep a firm wrist. You can't let your wrist get limp or you'll end up shanking the ball horribly, I learned that from experience. Also, you got to follow all the way through your shot, don't stop half-way or whatever, completely bring your arm up and follow through, you'll get a more consistent shot that way.
I'll just give you the best advice in tennis.. ever
KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL
look at the ball as if you are trying to read the words ';penn'; or whatever brand
it may seem easy but trust me, this is the best way to play tennis...
The best thing that you can remember about hitting a one hand is to keep your wrist straight. As long as you have good footing, and a straight wrist you'll be okay. However I can't agree with the last poster that said the two handed backhand has a very small strike zone. I don't know whether he watches the pro tour but players with two handed backhands hit them from all kinds of angles and depths but if you do use a two hand, you also need to learn a one hand slice which is invaluable. It can be used to slow the pace of the game if you are on the defensive and also to draw your opponent to the net.
